The Strathallan* doesn’t look like much from the outside. In fact, from afar it is one of the less attractive buildings in the area. But this hotel is much more than meets the eye at first glance. The Strath has been recently renovated and has become a cultural hub for locals and visitors alike.

The hotel is centrally located across the street from the Memorial Art Gallery. Just a couple of blocks away from Neighbourhood of the Arts (NOTA), and a brief walk to a variety of restaurants and bars. For our weekend visit, we had the pleasure of staying in one of the 3rd-floor suits. A two-room unit has a king-size bedroom (with the kind of bed that hugs you in your sleep) a kitchenette, a full-sized sofa, an office corner, and two flat-screen TVs, with HBO subscriptions. The suit has large, sunny windows and a balcony overlooking the beautiful neighborhood architecture.

The visitors enjoy the luxuries of the suits and on-site facilities (pool, gym, laundry…). The locals, on the other hand, flock to The Strath for steak, brunch, cocktails, and sushi. One of its main selling points, however, is the breathtaking view from the rooftop lounge (Hattie’s) offering a 360-degree view of the city. The nightlife crowd that gathers at the Strath is seemingly more mature, casually dressed up (no crop tops or bandage dresses here) enthusiastically chitchatting and exchanging pleasantries over cocktails.

The Strath, with all of the leisurely and dining options, has the potential to be your whole world during the visit. Though I strongly recommend exploring the city. The staff are friendly, approachable, and helpful. During check-in, you will get a warm cookie. At the check-out, they will take your bags and promptly deliver you to your departure destination. And while the walls might be a little thin the convenience and options are definitely something I can get used to!

Note: The hotel is a member of Hilton so make sure to collect your Hilton Honors Rewards* when visiting.
